snowy day thoughts

Big snow day today. Trying to get up the desire to do what needs to be done but the snow is heavy...see Jordan's evergreen tree...how the weight of the snow is causing the branches to bend...and I feel as heavy. Then I got an email from Charlene (Charlene who won't give her me blog address yet) who was depressed because all the blogs she reads were empty of new entries. So because she is a magnificent person I decided I needed to add an entry....So here's what I came up with Charlene.

You all know my friend Randy. It's from him that I have learned so much and sure wish he could retire so I could drain his brain some more...a lot more...particularly about getting this stupid computer to burn a VCR from the Dvideo camera...but I digress. Anyway...I have learned so much from Randy and then have shared what I learn with anyone else...like Lin, who has set up her own blog and is now teaching a class on blogging to the retired people in her area. I can't give her what Randy has given me but in a small way I hope it's one of those pay-it-forward deals since I've never been able to pay Randy for his knowledge with anything other than friendship.

Lately I've told Lin about MP3 players, my media player, and music for her blog, etc. And today I was reminded of a story Randy told me a long time ago. At least last year. Last week he stopped by to show me what he had bought and installed in the UPS truck. It's a great speaker, made by Logitech, runs on rechargeable batteries. To this he hooks his iPod...songs and books...and blasts it as he drives throughout Paradise. Each night he can recharge the batteries and is good to go for another 11 hours on his route.

But back to the story as I remember it. He likes to listen to books on CDs (now, of course, ripped to the iPod) as he drives and learns so much. Some lady on the route was talking to him, and questioned him about the "book". She then shakes her head. "Too bad he can't read" she mutters to herself as she walks away (remember, there is literary license involved in this retelling). That comment blew Randy away. It still blows me away. Makes you wonder how he can read the street signs and the UPS packages he delivers if he can't read. I cannot tell you how often I think about that story when I am driving and listening to a book on CD.

Well, there Charlene...that's my thought for a snowy day.

I sincerely appreciate all the effort. And the beautiful snowy picture. I would have liked to build an igloo today. The snow was nice and packable, but I had to go to work. I did get to shovel the drive twice though.
